Kirill Petrenko
Kirill Petrenko officially signs with FANTASY PERCUSSION
Kirill Petrenko has served as Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Berliner Philharmoniker since the 2019/20 season. Born in 1972 in Omsk, Russia, he received his musical training in his hometown and later in Austria. His conducting career began at the Meiningen State Theatre and the Komische Oper Berlin. From 2013 to 2020, Petrenko served as Artistic Director of the Bavarian State Opera.
As a guest conductor, Petrenko has appeared at renowned opera houses worldwide, including the Vienna State Opera, the Royal Opera House in London, the Paris Opera Bastille, the Metropolitan Opera in New York, and the Bayreuth Festival Theatre. He has conducted top-tier orchestras such as the Vienna Philharmonic, the Staatskapelle Dresden, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Cleveland Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra.
Petrenko first collaborated with the Berliner Philharmoniker in 2006, and since then, his repertoire with the orchestra has steadily expanded. The core classical-romantic repertoire is naturally indispensable, as evidenced by his inaugural concert featuring Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. Beyond this, Petrenko pays particular attention to composers who should not be forgotten, such as Josef Suk and Bernd Alois Zimmermann. Among the opera productions involving the Berliner Philharmoniker in recent years, Richard Strauss's *Elektra* and Giacomo Puccini's *Madama Butterfly* have been particularly noteworthy.
